Scott Base – New Zealand's permanent station in Antarctica – was officially opened on January 20, 1957. It was originally designed for only a short life – as the Ross Island base for the British Trans-Antarctic Expedition.

His set up his camp in Antarctica.

Duffy role model Niva Retimanu

 

Today on the first day of the week the whole went down to the hall for a surprise visit from Duffy role model Niva retimanu.

After she introduced herself to us she read us a book "Kiss,"'kiss","Yuck, Yuck". It was a little kid could Andy and his Aunty that gave him lots of kisses and whenever she did that he said yuck.

Shortly, after that lovely book, we said our goodbyes and she went out of the hall and then we went back to class.

How to make French Toast

This is a Recipe on how to make French Toast.

Ingredients:

1. 12 Eggs
2. ½ cup of Milk
3. Cooking oil / Butter
4. 2 pinches of salt
5. 2 pinches of pepper
6. A loaf of Bread

Utensils:

A big bowl

Something to whisk your eggs(Like a fork or a whisk)

Frying pan

Plastic plate or Paper Towel

Method

1. Add your 12 eggs into the bowl.
2. Whisk your eggs well
3. Add your ½ cup of milk into the bowl and keep whisk
4. Add 2 pinches of of pepper and salt then finally finish it off by whisking it a bit longer.
5. Heat up your frying pan and add the cooking oil or Butter.
6. Add a loaf of bread into the eggs and cover the whole bread with egg.
7. Put your slice of bread into the pan and wait for three minutes.
8. After it is ready put it on your plastic plate or paper towel and wait untill it cools down.

Maths Lesson - Friday

Today at tech (Technology) we are learning how to make a toy or object and what building is a shipping boat, we have two more weeks in the class and I am almost finished. The Technology class that we are in is called wood carving with Mr Grundy. I learnt about lots of new tools and materials that we are using for the next two weeks.

Science Intensive in room 10

Today my class and I went to room 10 for our last science Intensive for 2017. Our teacher for the day was Mr Nath and his topic was about Fire, Fire Safety and Fire Hazards. This is one of the things that we did in his class.

Moana Presentation

I have been learning hot to code using Hour of code. The skills that I have learnt include using the Move Forward block, Repeat block and the fish block in the code game Moana.

Birthday Party

As it was heading on to 9:00pm the party was just about to begin. The funny thing was  that I didn't know it was my birthday. I was so surprised that when I got there and came in,  they came so fast at me with the biggest surprise that I could ever hear in my life.

After that everyone sang the happy birthday song, it was very special and I knew that I was never going to forget the moment. Soon after they had finished, they brought out a massive cake just so I could blow the candles out. After that it was time to wait for a few minutes so that the mothers could finish preparing the food for people to eat.

Next after everyone finished we waited until desert, so in the meantime we had to just play on the family’s PS4, the game that we were playing was called Black Ops 3(BO3), it was a game of shooting and violence, but it was very fun and challenging at the same time.

Finally after the mum’s had finished preparing the dessert they brought it out to the middle of the table for everyone to come and grab a refreshment. Shortly after everyone had one or two it was time to give the birthday boy there presents, the presents that I got was very interesting and fun at the same time.

As soon as it was coming to the end of the party we all came and sat down for the last remarks. Firstly we had to do a little prayer before everyone had to sadly leave. As we were packing up our aunty siad if we wanted to finish off the night by watching a movie

Kiwi Can

Today we had our first Kiwi can lesson for this term. First, we played four Corners but it was different we had four corners with cones that had a word on it, the words that were on it was Integrity, Truth, Honesty and Caring. There were a caller and two people tagging the rest, the winner of the game was Levi G.

When we got back to room 11 we had a talk about values and what are our values, after that we had our activity and it was called role plays, what we did was that we were split into 5 groups and had to act out our word, our word was courage.

Later on, after we had finished we had a short round of GKQ, then we had to head back to class.

Volleyball Session

Today we went to the courts for another session of volley ball. The skills that we learnt was a dig, set and a spike and the question that she asked was which one is much more important and the answer was all of them.

We started of by having a partner and the partner had to go to the other side of the net then we had to lob the ball over to him/her then he had to do a dig right in front of him/her then he had to catch the ball.

The second thing we did was that we had a competition for lollies, so what we did was that we had to serve the ball to the other person at the other side of the net where he was standing and the team that won was Levi And I.

The last thing we did was to have volleyball games and there were six teams, numbers 1, 2, 3,  4, 5 and 6. So My team (2) were first up against team 1 and they won their first game. Next we were up against team 4 and also lost that game. Finallly we were up against team 6 and finally we won.

I felt very happy at the end of our session and so was my whole class.

Today we had another experiment and this time is was called Make a flute.

The things that we used was:

• 5 plastic bottles
• Water
• And a tester

What we did was we had water in them but filled up on different levels. After we did that we blow it and it made an awesome sound.

I felt very happy after the experiment and i also learnt a lot of new things from this.

The scientific explanation is that when you blow on the bottle it makes different noises because of the amount of water that is in the bottle.

Maths Session reflection

Today we had observations and we had a decimal problem it was really fun and awesome. I learnt that decimals and fractions are the same.

Maths Measurement Map

Yesterday, we were learning about Temperature for Maths. We had to find some clues of the temperature of each Suburb in New Zealand, and produce it as a Weather Forecast. Now each group presented their Weather Forecast in front of the class. Each group has a video of their Weather presentation.

Use a Balloon to Amplify Sound

Use a Balloon to Amplify Sound Small sounds can still make a big noise when you use a good sound conductor. Experiment with a balloon, compressed air and your own ears to find out how it works and the science behind it.

What you'll need: Balloon Instructions: Blow up the balloon. Hold the balloon close to your ear while you tap lightly on the other side. What's happening? Despite you only tapping lightly on the balloon your ears can hear the noise loudly. When you blew up the balloon you forced the air molecules inside the balloon closer to each other. Because the air molecules inside the balloon are closer together, they become a better conductor of sound waves than the ordinary air around you. I was very fun because we learnt lots of new things.

Aoetea Centre

On Monday two classes from Glenbrae were on there way to Auckland Live. When we got there our ushers took in to a great big hall and that's where we had our first session. Our first session was very exciting and kinda new for me because it was about dancing and a lot of fresh skills to learn and because I was not into dancing.

Later on after that session finished we went and had breakfast out in the middle of aotea square. After our break we went to our next session and it was about two animals that were traveling from New Zealand to Alaska on there way they stop at Australia and met a jumpless kangaroo which was also Maori so they told the kangaroo if you have seen their friend the taniwha but he said first i've lost my talent of jumping and could you help me get it back. So they helped him two of them shouted out E Peke(Means Jump) then he tried out it couldn't work so they got us to stand up and then we all said it in a loud voice then the Kangaroo started jumping very high so he pointed the way to china but we finished there because they were still making the end up.

Later on it was lunch time so we went and got our lunches and sat down where we were and ate.

While we were eating we played bull rush and it was cool and fun because we played with another school, it was very packed as we were playing so we played another game called cats and rats but we couldn't play because there wasn't that much time left and we had to take our bags so we took them and then lined up outside.

After Lunch it was our last session and it was called Matamata 2.0 it was also about Interactive Art and Dance first we were showin a screen that had an Xbox connect in front so we got split into two groups and one went with the dance person. Then the rest went with the person that was running Matamata 2.0 the thing that we were  meant to do was look at the screen and copy the person that was dancing. After 20 minutes we swapped over and for the next group we had to come up with something about a sport that  you liked then after we all perform it we played a game to wait for the other group.

I felt very happy because I learnt lots of new things and I hope that we will go back there some day.
